Introduction

DMC ALSACE, Alsace’s leading DMC conference planner (organizer) and events specialist for incentive travel and conventions. A preferred destination management company and supplier used by international conference organisers worldwide.

A region in France that borders Switzerland to the south and Germany to the east, which gives it a very unique culture. It has various coloured houses which look as if they came straight out of a fairy tale. In the past, each colour had its own meaning, so you could easily see if it was a butcher or a bakery. Today, people can choose which colour they like. Very close to the Vosges Mountains, Alsace is well-known for its wines and unique cuisine. During history, it has passed very often between French and German control. The famous emblem of Alsace is the stork, which is native here. Due to its location and its impressive modern infrastructure, it is often seen as a trading centre between northern and southern Europe.

Destinations

Strasbourg: Mostly known for its big red cathedral and for its various European institutions, this city is the second most popular tourist city of France, after Paris. It is the official seat of the European Parliament. The cathedral is the second most visited French cathedral after Notre Dame de Paris and has the highest cathedral tower of France. The historic quarter, called Grande Ile, looks as if it comes straight out of a fairy tale. It was the first city centre that’s entirely been classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site. In the European district, you can find the Council of Europe's seat, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Parliament and many other famous European buildings. Being this touristic, Strasbourg has of course many museums, all of which have free entrance every first Sunday of the month. Some museums worth a visit are the Musée de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame, the Palais Rohan, the Musée Alsacien, the Musée Historique and the Musée Zoologique. In December, the Strasbourg Christmas market is the oldest and biggest historic Christmas market of Europe.

Colmar: Linked with the Alsatian vineyards, its people often call it the capital of the Alsatian wine. This is really the place to be to enjoy the marvellous half-timbered coloured houses and cobblestone lanes. Soon, you will feel like you went a couple 100 years back in time. This city is also the birthplace of sculptor Bartholdi, who made the famous Statue of Liberty of New York. You can see his work at the Bartholdi Museum or take a look at the replica of the Statue of Liberty in the Rue de Strasbourg.

Ribeauvillé: One of the prettiest towns of Alsace. In the mountains above the town, there are three marvellous ruined castles. The town itself is partly surrounded by ancient walls, and is filled with picturesque half-timbered houses, most of which date from the 16th century. Several of the houses, and also the fountains and many other details, are Historical Monuments.

Flights

There is only one international airport in the Alsace region: Aéroport de Strasbourg. There are no direct flights from London. Most flights from London take about 5 to 7 hours, with a stop in Amsterdam, Brussels, or Paris.
