WHAT’S NEW IN PARIS? LE GRAND PALAIS Andy Warhol Exhibition from 18 March to 13 July The great world of Andy Warhol with 250 pieces of art exhibited for a themed retrospective of his career. « All my portraits have to be the same size, so they’ll all fit together and make one big painting called Portraits of society. That’s a good idea, isn’t it? Maybe the Metropolitan Museum would want it someday. »Arcimboldo & Dali from 1st April to 6 July Apart from Arcimboldo’s famous composite images or reversible portraits, and the inventions of Dali, the unchallenged grand master of ambiguous imagery, double images have often been dismissed as fortuitous creations, This exhibition has focused exclusively on double images that have been consciously inserted and claimed by their creators. As the artists are not there to testify, their choice is based on circumstantial historical proof or presumptions.

They aim to assemble 250 works, after a rigorous selection process. FAUCHON Already seen Mona Lisa at the LOUVRE museum? In 2009, come to PARIS and EAT her for a change! This new FAUCHON dessert tastes of almond and chocolate and has been elected “ best Teatime Treat“ at the Wallpaper Design Awards! 65th ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY From 5-7 June 2009, the Normandy coastline will be commemorating the bravery of the British, American and Canadian soldiers, who made history in 1944 when debarking on the beaches of Normandy, which triggered off the end of the Nazi regime that had occupied most of Europe for 5 years. Commemorations, military parades with vintage vehicles, picnics, concerts, dancing evenings. Three days of celebrations with veterans coming from all over the world to relive certainly the most dangerous and exhilarating event in their lives and to pray for those who lost their lives for freedom.

HOTEL SAGA IN PARIS... The game continues and Paris is still frantic in new openings and swapping of owners for hotels.

HILTON Hilton, after losing the Hilton Suffren to Accor (rebranded Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel), strikes back and has taken over the former Starwood Trianon Palace in Versailles, adding it to their prestigious Waldorf Astoria collection. Chef Gordon Ramsay continues to look after the restaurant and the F&B.

REZIDOR The Rezidor chain continues their expansion and at last own a large hotel in Paris, the Radisson Ambassador, formerly a Concorde hotel. The hotel is located in the Opera area of Paris. They are also building a new hotel in the business area of La Défense with 343 rooms, due to open end of 2011.

SHANGRI-LA A couple of drawings to imagine the new Hotel Shangri-La opening end of 2009, a top deluxe 4-star hotel with 108 rooms, swimming pool, spa, gastronomic restaurants. The view should be spectacular over the Eiffel Tower...

BRISTOL Hotel Bristol, one of the palaces of Paris, is finally extending, after two years of works on the neighbouring building bought in 2007,. An additional 21 rooms and 5 suites (with a beautiful view over the Eiffel Tower) are added, as well as a grill restaurant with 100 seats.

ACCOR The mayor of Paris has decided the total renovation of the Beaugrenelle area, located on the left bank. In view of its ugly 1970s look, this was an absolute necessity and hopefully it will finally deserve its position alongside the Seine River after this massive transformation. However, this does heavily involve the Hotel Novotel Tour Eiffel, one of the major conference hotels in Paris. They have therefore closed their conference centre until the end of 2009 (tentative date). The works take place on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and cease throughout the weekend. If you want excellent rates and are ready to put up with the difficulties major works involve, you are sure to strike a deal throughout the year at this hotel that remains open.

DERBY COLLECTION The Banke Hotel, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World affiliate is opening next April. Located just next to the Galeries Lafayette, it proposes 91 rooms, a bar and two restaurants. Definitely an interesting boutique hotel: a pictures of their façade to open up your interest
