Fighting Poverty…Charity begins at home. Every day we see the effects that poverty has on people living right next door to us. We believe that we have a responsibility to contribute. Exotissimo are involved in a wide range of projects. Some of these include:

• A hospitality training school for disadvantaged youth in Hanoi.
• An organisation that performs operations on children with cleft palettes and harelips.
• A football tournament for children attending a school for marginalised and homeless youth.
• The annual Saigon Cyclo Challenge to raise funds for a local children’s charity.
• Sponsoring school fees for two orphans in Vietnam through a French NGO.
• Partnering with a German NGO, Exotissimo Laos operates the “Akha Trail” tour. Small groups trek through Northern Laos to see the rural villages of the Akha, a struggling ethnic minority group. The money from these tours goes directly to the Akha people.

Some of the most remarkable of these involve supporting local community organisations. All children in Myanmar attend a Buddhist initiation ceremony when they come of age. Sadly, many parents cannot afford this ceremony for their children. This brings great shame on the whole family. Exotissimo Travel has introduced a number of our incentive clients to such families. The client sponsors two or three children to be initiated. They also pay to rebuild each family’s house. This gesture makes a meaningful difference to people’s lives. It also enables our corporate clients to participate in some authentic ceremonies. Few experiences can surpass encounters with the remarkable people of Myanmar.
