2014 in New York City brings exciting news for meeting and event planners. Uniqueworld, and our DMC partner Briggs NYC are planning an exciting Familiarisation trip in spring 2014 for event planning companies to experience and hear about some of the new hotel and venue developments for 2014 and beyond.
Manhattan has always been a template for development of the latest hotel, restaurant and venue trends and 2014 does not disappoint! Manhattan hotel operators and owners regularly ‘re-energise and revamp the classic and iconic locations as well as create totally new hotel and hospitality concepts.
The Knickerbocker Hotel, Times Square
The original Knickerbocker Hotel was opened by John Jacob Astor IV in 1906, hosted such guests as John D. Rockefeller, had its own subway entrance, and is thought to have been the birthplace of the original martini. The hotel closed in 1921. The all-new Knickerbocker is slated to now open in mid-2014, will have 330 guest-rooms, a food and beverage collaboration “with one of the most recognized master chefs in New York” including a signature restaurant and bar on the fourth-floor; 7,500-square-foot rooftop bar and terrace offering panoramic views of the city’s skyline.
SLS New York
Hotelier of the Year, Sam Nazarian brings the ‘cool and trendy SLS concept to the NoMad area of Manhattan on Park Avenue. SLS offer the best in design, culinary and entertainment, and this, their second property (after LA) ,will offer 190 rooms and , most exciting, an exclusive rooftop experience to bring something truly dynamic to the area. This is going to be ‘the place to be in NYC in 2014!’
There are at least another half a dozen exciting hotel openings which our DMC partner, Briggs NYC personally check each and every one. The exciting ‘upcoming attraction’ news is the New York Wheel & Empire Outlets attraction which starts the development in 2014 and will open in 2016. It will be situated on the North Shore of Staten Island, only a short ferry ride from Manhattan. This will be a great venue for event planning companies!
