ACCESS Destination Services shares secret of team building success Destination Services, the industry leader in customized event planning, has earned a national reputation with its unique and successful team-building programs. “Though it may seem obvious, it’s surprising how many event companies don’t consider its clients’ needs and desired outcomes when planning teambuilding activities,” says says ACCESS Orange County partner Candace Bisconte, DMCP. “Before we recommend any team building event, we ensure we understand exactly what our clients hope to achieve, as well as the group’s energy level.” This consideration played an important role in a recent teambuilding event that ACCESS customized for a client that serves the health care industry. “The team building activity was scheduled at the end of a very busy day. We knew no one would have the physical or mental energy for a challenging event. So we designed Grin and Bear It, a fun but relaxing activity where participants put together stuffed bears for hospitalized children,” she says. “Adding that corporate social responsibility component really delighted our client.” Corporate social responsibility, in fact, has become a very important aspect of ACCESS’s team-building activities. “ACCESS Destination Services began to emphasize CSR for our clients during the economic downturn of 2009, when we recognized significant need in the communities where we hosted meetings and events,” says CEO Chris Lee, DMCP. “CSR has now grown into a standard practice, with most of our clients regularly including philanthropic activities in their offsite events.” One of ACCESS’s more ambitious team building/CSR projects resulted in the creation of an entire computer lab — including assembling the furniture and installing 15 computers — for a youth center in New Orleans. Matching an organization’s passion to its activity is a must. ACCESS San Diego recently designed a team building exercise for a client involved with youth education. The activity called for teams to compete for components to build tricycles, wagons and bookshelves for a local learning facility. The goal of some teambuilding activities can also be simply to combine fun with charitable giving. That was the case when ACCESS Florida was designed.
